There's many opportunities in using intervals when creating a Neo Classical solo or piece of music, we will go through the intervals and decide which works the best to create the sound we want
Scales
The Harmonic minor scale is very often used as a tool to create Neo Classical sounding melodies, but there are several other options which we will get into like Phrygian minor and Natural minor
Diminished
this symmetrical concept also plays a large role in the Neo Classical genre and we will both get into scales and arpeggios drawn from this concept
Never before seen techniques revieled
All new ways of playing tapping arpeggios. It used to take hours upon hours of practice to play triad arpeggios with multi finger tapping but this new system makes it easy to play insanely fast triad tapping resulting in playing Neo Classical arpeggio patterns in lightening speed
What is Neo Classical Metal?
If you are one of those who not only want to be able to technically play and master the techniques used in Neo Classical Metal we will also after analyzing some of the masters in the genre take their concepts and methods and re use them. This means that we will find examples of creating a Neo Classical sounding riff and chorus and this way make our own take on those examples and create a Neo Classical song from that. This is a really fun and inspiring way to become a composer yourself.
Become able to play your favorite songs
If you don't want to compose songs and play in a band or even play with other musicians that's totally cool as well. We will go through examples used in all the greatest Neo Classical players out there like Yngwie Malmsteen, Tony Macalpine, Vinnie Moore and many others. And you will be armed with the techniques so you can easily play the masters songs. You will also be able to quickly identify what a song is made up of which is an essential tool to sort of break down a song in parts which speeds up the learning process noticeably
Rhythm
Another critical element in becoming a great musician is to have a strong basis in rhythm. It's not something that is typical in a "shred" course but you simply cannot skip this component
Riffing
How do you actually create a cool riff? in the course you will be given many examples that derives from original compositions from the Masters
New interesting ways to play Arpeggios
You are no more limited to exclusively playing arpeggios the standard way up and down using Sweep Picking. You will learn new interesting ways to play arpeggios utilized with different techniques that opens up now possibilities that where not possible using Sweep picking or Alternate picking
The history
On top of that we will also discuss the history and evolution of the Neo Classical genre. You will get the full understanding of this style and where all the elements in Neo Classical Metal comes from. The analysis of works by the masters of both Classical music and Neo Classical Metal will give you all the clues but in a fun and inspiring way
Learn to play classical instrumentations
You will learn violin music and even piano music but played on the guitar. The cool thing about that is that different instrumentalists and musicians think and approach their instruments that you may not. This means that a flute or violinist would approach their instrument in a different way than a guitarist would coming up with awesome ideas that us guitar players would not think of. Of course all instruments has their advantages but we can improve much more if we learn from other instruments than if we exclusively learn from other guitar players
Find the composer in you
Experience the extreme joy of creating music yourself, this has to be experienced to understand it. Personally I have never experienced anything more fulfilling than creating a cool sounding riff or chorus for a new song. Personally I released three albums on the Lion Music record label and latest I released my new band Sage's Recital as well with many amazing and well known musicians

Getting your degree in Neo Classical Metal
In the last week of the 12 week course you will submit either a self composed Neo Classical piece or a piece by one of your favorite Neo Classical Metal composers or even a classical piece for a review. This is of course not a must to do this but it's a very important stepping stone in become a musician yourself. If you prefer to skip this step of submitting a song for a review you can easily do that as well or even do it at a later point that feels convenient to you
The final Graduation.
Here you will get an assignment to create a song, you will get directions that when followed you will end up with your own Neo Classical Metal song. Here you can again as in the previous tests choose to submit a video or Tablature instead(Not obligated)
Listen and Learn
A major source for inspiration and opportunity to develop your own chops and ideas is to listen to a solo or a riff and then finding a way to play it on the guitar instead of finding the tabs to it on the internet. What this does that is so benefitial is that you not only come up with your own fingering and way to play it but it forces you to re create the sound but since you cannot see the tabs you develop you own way of doing so. You will get a head start by seeing how I do it in the course
The crucial practicing tracks
What makes this four week's course unique and one of a kind is that there's absolutely no escape from practicing plus there's no question as to what and how much needs to be practiced every day. The way that is done is that every day you get a new practicing track. The practicing track consists of a acoustic or electric piano playing the lessons along with you together with a metronome. The tempo goes up consistently. the shorter lessons are practiced several times in each tempo whereas the longer lessons are only drilled once in each tempo to prevent the lessons of becoming stale and boring
The practicing tracks are easy to download with the Download button so you don't have to log into your profile every time you want to practice. Just like the tablature and standard music notation which can easily be downloaded to your computer as well.
The fourth week
This week is going to be something special. This week is different than the three previous which are mainly technical, there's still technical approaches in the fourth week but here we are discussing many different topics like
- Rhythm
- Improvisation
- Incorporating licks into your playing
- Working the Tapping technique into your licks
- Creating your own exclusive chops
- Learning untraditional instruments from recordings
- Goal setting and finding the right reasons to practice
Your own continuation
When you are goo n' ready to continue on your own without the practicing tracks because the tracks only goes to a certain tempo of course. But when you at some stage become faster than the practicing tracks it is critical that you continue on your own to reach you own limits
First thing's first
When you start the first day, the first thing you need to do is to learn the material in the first lesson. Once you know the complete pattern you need to practice it so much so you can start playing it with a metronome. As you will learn in the course, before you can introduce the metronome you need to know the material so well so you can put part of your attention on the metronome. If you experience playing the same wrong note again and again, you don't know the lesson well enough. This just means that you need to "chunk" the lesson up in smaller parts or drill the lesson super slow without the metronome
Techniques and lessons
The first three weeks has mainly a technical approach. In week one we are solely focused on Alternate picking. In week two we will immerse ourself in the Sweep picking technique and in the third week our focal point will be the Legato technique. But along with every day's technical lessons you will get a new video that discusses the technique and gives tips and insights on how to leverage your practicing time to perfect the technique which ultimately gives you the best fundamentals to play fast and reach your goals faster
Alternate picking
- Musical phrases
- Major scale ideas
- Harmonic minor phrasing
- Chromaticism
Sweep picking
- Triads and four note advanced arpeggios
- Untraditional patterns
- Neo classical and contemporary arpeggios
Legato
- Pentatonic shredding
- Unique Arpeggio playing
- String skipping ideas
- Harmonic minor ideas
Non practical lessons
All the non practical videos are mainly in week four but along with the daily technical lessons you get the info that will adjust your technique if you should start to get any "bad habits" along the way
Practice - practice - practice
This is obviously not a course for "lazy guitar players" you need to put in more and more work as the weeks pass, because even though you finished the first or second week does not mean you are done with those. Each practicing track just gets on top of the new, so this means you practicing schedule gets more and more intense. This also means that the first few days you will probably spend most of your time learning the material because you will only have one or a few practicing tracks available Support
The evolution of Shred Guitar is moving faster and faster every day so what was completely outrageus ten to fifteen years ago has now been completely standardised
Every time you hear a new Metal or Hard Rock band you know exactly what to expect when the solo is kicking in. The Triad Sweep picking arpeggios, the minor scale Legato and Alternate picking runs has become completely played out and is nothing that can surprise the Guitar freak of today.
Even the Triad Sweep picking Arpeggios with combined single note Tapping and in some cases sliding is neither something that will make you sit on the edge of the chair and bite your nails.
So what used to be such a refreshing part of the Metal and Shred Guitar style has now almost the opposite effect, you become numb to it and in many cases you maybe even prefer an exclusively Melodic theme based solo instead instead.
So if you still want to surprise your listeners and at least yourself you gotta think in a new direction. This is what this course is all about. Im not saying that these before describe types of licks cannot be cool anymore, and theres even a few Pentatonic licks on the course, but always executed in a new and exciting way
Techniques
Each of the techniques presented in this course will be dug deep into, we will spend at least one whole week for each of them
- Legato
Actually Legato just means soft. There are obviously more than one way to create that sound but the way we mainly create that sound on the guitar is by the Hammer on and pull off technique. We will dedicate an entire week to this wonderful technique
- Multi tech
This technique or I should say these techniques are some of the most exciting technique out there right now since it combines techniques like Sweep picking, Legato, slides, bends and Tapping into one amazing lick, the awesome thing about that is that it inspires to play stuff that you would never have come up with in any other way I believe. One whole week has also been dedicated to this craziness
- Tapping
This technique is also one that really inspires to play something that you probably would not come up with without using Tapping
- Advanced Arpeggios
My guess is that you probably have played your fair share of triad Arpeggios so instead of spending so much time on those we will dig directly into the more advanced four note arpeggios like Major seven, dominant, minor seven and many more
- Sweep picking Tapping
The combination of the Sweep picking technique and the Tapping technique is in my taste one of the most inspiring, So in this course you will get sort of an introduction week to the technique and then a week with even more advanced licks
Scales
In the first week and later on in the course you will learn a new way of combining your scale patterns with all the pertaining four note arpeggios plus crazy over the top scale based Legato or Tapping phrases. We will delve deep into the realm of the Major/natural minor scale, the Melodic minor scale and the Harmonic minor scale
Chromaticism
You will learn to use chromatics not only as a sweet sounding effect but also using some awesome chromatic licks. A whole week has been dedicated to just that
Improvising
The whole foundation of the Contemporary Rock Guitar Course is Improvisation, so every week you will get a great and inspiring track to practice your new material to, but you will also learn a complete solo and this way get an example on how to approach the track
Theory in a new way
Theory does not have to be something you read in a dusty boring book. We will spend quite some time in one of these weeks learning a system that makes you approach improvising in a completely new way that does not take a lot of boring knowledge. Don't get me wrong, theory are a very useful tool and I use it myself as well. But when you just add that knowledge on top of the more musical way to improvise you become an unstoppable soloing machine, and when you as the final glazing add these sweet, sweet chops in the course you become invincible
New improvising tools
These important videos gives you just that essential overview of when and where to start and end the licks and lessons, so imagine yourself improvising with a band or showing off in a music store and the chops just materialise in your playing so all your solos end up as a beautiful combination of phrasing(your sense of melody) and the most outrageous and technical chops known to guitarists, this is the highest you can achieve in soloing and also the most sought after by guitarists.
This skill set continues to puzzle guitar players the world over, but the fact is that what actually develops these skills is quite simple but its also profound and certainly takes the right mindset. So theres no doubt that this is a course that will take work and dedication, don't kid yourself, these tools in the course are very effective, but its not magic, it still takes work and repetitions.
-
Every week you will get an in depth video that shows you exactly how to use the material in your own playing. What this means to you is that it is guaranteed you will add a new dimension to yourself as a player and actually grow as a musician when you follow the Special Improvisations videos at the end of each week's special Technique, licks and Lessons videos
-
And learn a whole new way of improvising, getting the melodies you hear in your head over the music you are playing to out and into your s olos
This Course offers you to
Become the musician you always dreamed of.
-
Giving you the tools that sometimes seem impossible, but now explained in its simplicity how to make use of extremely advanced chops in an improvised solo
-
Combining over the top licks with strong melody created right from the source.... your brain
-
Get the inspiration to finally start creating your own chops
Neo classical enchantment
In this new twelve week's course you will master even the most advanced techniques you can think of. Every week you will get between about half an hour or over an hour of HD video and accompanyed is a backing track, a pdf document with tablature and standard music notation plus a guitar pro file which can be opened either with guitar pro 6 and newer versions. But it can also be opened aand played in the free program tux guitar.
A new and quicker way of learning
Instead of giving you the same backing track in several different tempos Im offering you a new and way less time consuming way of learning. I realized that when you are learning a piece of music you waste so much time learning the whole piece and then trying to gradually increase the speed.
So instead you will go through a process where you identify your personal pro's and con's in each piece of music. This means that if you already feel very confident in playing standard sweep picking triads, there is really no need for you to keep working on that as well if you are trying to learn a piece that also has some techniques that you struggle with, so if the piece that both have sweep picking triads and maybe four note or more arpeggios and maaybe also other techniques that you need to work on, then you will only drill these and get those techniques you struggle with up to the tempo where the song is.
This way makes you master each song or track at least fifty percent faster than if you practiced the whole piece every time in each tempo. This is also a way of practicing I suggest you use in everything you learn from now on
The next step
This is sort of a bonus video to every week that for most muscians is something you will massively benefit from. We will go through every lick and lesson every week and analyze if there's any good stuff that you can either use in your own soloing, your improvising or even if you would like to write your own songs.
Soloing concepts
A few of the week there will not be obvious licks that we can use for soloing but instead there are soloing concepts like chromatizism or pedal point ideas that you can use in your own playing, and we will discuss this in detail
The techniques
NEW never seen before arpeggio shapes
NEW never seen before tapping
- Extreme tapping
- Legato
- Alternater picking
- String skipping
